Part of a six-stamp (on two souvenir sheets) set featuring avant garde artists, this stamp honors Victor Brauner (1903-1966). The Guggenheim web site has a brief biography of Brauner as well as two of his paintings. The web sites for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Musee d'Art Moderne also have examples of his work. This painting, "Femeie care viseaza II (1938) translates into "Woman Who Dreams."
