Jean Rostand (1894-1977) was a French biologist, science writer, and philosopher. He studied amphibians (hence the frog cachets) and several quite wonderful quotes are attributed to him on The Internet: "My pessimism extends to to point of even suspecting the sincerity of pessimists" and "To be an adult is to be alone."
The first cachet is from La Numismatique Francaise.

Jean de La Fontaine (1621-1695) was a French fabulist; these stamps were issued on the three hundredth anniversary of his death. In this story, a frog, impressed by the ox's size, tries to inflate himself until he is bigger. It doesn't, of course, end well for the frog.
